step by step

Method

  1. Prep the aromatics and vegetables

    • Roughly chop the green onion.
    • Mince the garlic.
    • Slice the mushrooms and the ginger.
    Step 1
  2. Season the steaks

    • Season the New York strip steaks with salt and pepper, going light since Cajun seasoning and soy sauce are also added.
    Step 2
  3. Season the shrimp

    • Toss the shrimp with Creole seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, soy sauce, white pepper and black pepper.
    • Mix well and set aside.
    Step 3
  4. Sear the steaks

    • Heat the pan over medium-high heat and add the olive oil.
    • Let the oil heat, then sear the steaks about 3 minutes per side.
    • Remove and finish them in the oven.
    Step 4
  5. Cook the shrimp

    • In the same pan, cook the shrimp about 2 to 3 minutes per side.
    • Remove and set aside.
    Step 5
  6. Steam the bok choy and mushrooms

    • Add the bok choy to the pan and season with salt and pepper.
    • Add a little water so it steams nicely.
    • Add the mushrooms and cook until softened.
    Step 6
  7. Build the broth

    • In the same pan, add the ginger, green onion, garlic, paprika, Creole seasoning and crushed red pepper.
    • Pour in the chicken broth and let it simmer down.
    • Stir in the coconut milk, then add more paprika for color and the juice of one lime.
    Step 7
  8. Plate and serve

    • Serve the broth over cooked rice with the steak, shrimp and bok choy.
    • Finish with chili oil and green onion.
    Step 8
