step by step

Method

  1. Brown the sausage with the vegetables

    • Add a little olive oil to a large pan.
    • Add the breakfast sausage, onion, bell pepper, celery and garlic.
    • Cook, breaking up the sausage, until it begins to brown.
    Step 1
  2. Season the mixture

    • Add the garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, paprika, black pepper, cayenne pepper and beef bouillon powder.
    • Season generously, since the flavor has to carry over into the rice.
    • Stir to combine.
    Step 2
  3. Cook until the sausage is done

    • Keep cooking until the sausage is completely done and the vegetables are soft.
    Step 3
  4. Cook the rice

    • Cook the rice however you normally do, using beef broth instead of water for extra flavor.
    Step 4
  5. Combine the rice and sausage mixture

    • Add the cooked rice to the sausage mixture.
    • Stir until you reach the meat-to-rice ratio you like.
    Step 5
  6. Serve

    • Plate the dirty rice and enjoy.
