step by step

Method

  1. Make the meatloaf mixture

    • In a bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs soaked in milk, sautéed onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper.
    • Mix until evenly combined.
    Step 1
  2. Shape the zombie face

    • Place the mixture on a sheet pan and form it into the shape of a face.
    • Scoop out the eye sockets and use the meat to build up the brow bones.
    • Scoop out the mouth and use that meat to form a nose, a defined chin and an upper lip.
    • Use a chopstick to poke the nostrils.
    Step 2
  3. First bake

    • Bake in a 350 °F oven for 30 minutes.
    Step 3
  4. Make the glaze

    • Combine the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar and garlic salt.
    Step 4
  5. Glaze the meatloaf

    • Brush the glaze all over the meatloaf, getting into the eye sockets, the mouth and around the edges.
    Step 5
  6. Second bake

    • Return to the oven for 30 more minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 160 °F.
    Step 6
  7. Decorate the zombie

    • Transfer the meatloaf to a presentation platter.
    • Cut a slit just under the upper lip and add onions for the teeth.
    • Add Spanish green olives for the eyeballs and cooked spaghetti for the hair.
    • Add onion for the eyebrows.
    • Spoon prepared mashed potatoes sprinkled with parsley around it for a chunky vomit effect.
    Step 7
