How to make it
- 1
Brown the butter
Put 3/4 cup of butter in a pan on low heat on the stove.
Let it bubble up, then keep cooking until it turns a beautiful golden brown color.
Take it off the heat.
- 2
Mix in the sugars
Add 1 cup of light brown sugar and 1/4 cup of white sugar to the browned butter.
Mix until just combined.
- 3
Add the eggs and vanilla
Add 1 large egg yolk, 1 whole egg and 1 tablespoon of vanilla.
Mix to combine (this is 3 times as much vanilla as normal and it's worth it).
- 4
Add the dry ingredients
Add 1 3/4 cups of spooned and leveled all purpose flour, 3/4 teaspoon baking soda and 1 teaspoon salt.
Mix until just combined.
- 5
Fold in the chocolate
Add 2 cups of semi sweet chocolate chips (or 8 oz of chopped chocolate).
Fold until evenly distributed.
- 6
Scoop and top the dough
Scoop the cookie dough into 2 oz balls.
Roll them between your hands.
Add a few more pieces of chocolate to the top of each cookie.
- 7
Chill the dough
Cover the cookies and place them in the fridge.
Chill for at least 30 minutes to deepen the flavor and get a better texture.
- 8
Bake
Bake at 350F for 11 to 12 minutes.
Top the cookies with a little sea salt.
Cook what you saved.
