Method

  1. Preheat the oven

    • Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    Step 1
  2. Cream the butter, sugar and peanut butter

    • In a bowl, beat together the butter, brown sugar and peanut butter until light and fluffy.
    • Beat in the maple syrup, then add the egg and vanilla and beat until creamy.
    Step 2
  3. Add the dry ingredients

    • Add the flour, baking soda and salt.
    • Mix until the dough comes together.
    Step 3
  4. Shape the cookies

    • Scoop the dough into rounded tablespoon-size balls, or roll them by hand.
    • Place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
    Step 4
  5. Bake the cookies

    • Bake for 6 to 7 minutes.
    • Tap the baking sheet on the counter twice to flatten the cookies, then bake another 3 minutes, until just set on the edges but still doughy in the center.
    Step 5
  6. Add the spider bodies

    • Immediately top each cookie with an upside-down mini peanut butter cup.
    • Place a Milk Dud next to it for the spider's head.
    • Let the cookies cool.
    Step 6
  7. Pipe the legs and eyes

    • Melt the chocolate in the microwave and transfer it to a piping bag or a sandwich bag with the corner snipped off.
    • Pipe three legs on either side of each peanut butter cup.
    • Dot chocolate on the candy eyes and attach two eyes on top of each Milk Dud.
    • Let set until the chocolate is firm.
    Step 7
