step by step

Method

  1. Mix the ombre icing

    • Stir the yellow icing into the blue icing to create a blue-to-green ombre.
    • Dip the donut into the icing to coat it.
    Step 1
  2. Wipe off half the face

    • Remove the icing from one half of the donut so only half stays coated.
    • Smooth the edge where the two halves meet.
    Step 2
  3. Fill the tail and freeze

    • Fill the tail part with icing.
    • Place the donut in the freezer to harden.
    Step 3
  4. Make the scales

    • Melt the white chocolate and spread it thin.
    • Let it set, then break it into small flat scale pieces using the smooth backside.
    Step 4
  5. Draw the human face

    • Use white icing to make the human side of the face.
    • Draw a smile to map out the space for the features.
    Step 5
  6. Add the eyes

    • Pipe a yellow eye on the sea monster side and a white eye on the human side.
    • Fill in both eyes and paint on the pupils.
    Step 6
  7. Add the eyebrow

    • Pipe the dark blue icing for the eyebrow.
    • Melt the dark chocolate and use it to define the eyebrow.
    Step 7
  8. Let the eyes dry

    • Leave the eyes to dry completely before adding more details.
    Step 8
  9. Make the fin

    • Break a piece of the set chocolate in half.
    • Shape it into a small fin and attach it to the donut.
    Step 9
  10. Add the curly hair

    • Place chocolate chips on the human side to mimic dark brown curly hair.
    • Adjust the chips so they look like curls.
    Step 10
  11. Finish with the scales

    • Arrange the white chocolate scales all around the sea monster side of the head.
    • Press them gently so they stay in place.
