step by step

Method

  1. Cook the rice

    • Cook the rice until tender and fluffy.
    • Season lightly with salt and let it cool slightly so it can be shaped.
    Step 1
  2. Make the egg sheet

    • Beat the egg with a pinch of salt.
    • Heat the oil in a frying pan and pour in the egg, spreading it into a thin, flat sheet.
    • Cook gently until set, then slide it onto a plate.
    Step 2
  3. Prepare the vegetables and sausage

    • Blanch the broccoli florets and carrot sticks in boiling water until just tender, then drain.
    • Pan-fry the mini sausages until golden and cooked through.
    • Toss the vegetables with soy sauce and sesame oil.
    Step 3
  4. Shape the Hello Kitty rice

    • While the rice is still warm, press it into a rounded cat-head shape with your hands.
    • Wrap the shaped rice in the egg sheet to make the face.
    • Cut nori into eyes, whiskers and a small bow, and place them on the egg sheet.
    Step 4
  5. Assemble the bento

    • Place the Hello Kitty rice in the bento box.
    • Fill the remaining compartments with broccoli, carrot, sausages and cherry tomatoes.
    • Pack tightly so nothing shifts, then close the box.
